Cipollino Ondulato

Rich, wave-like bands of sage green, brown, beige, and burgundy sweep across this Cipollino Ondulato, quarried in Tuscany, Italy. Thin white bands of mica hold the wider color bands together, and the whole pattern moves in fluid, undulating waves rather than the straight veining you’d see in most marble, which is exactly what earned it the name “cipollino,” Italian for “little onion,” after the layered look of the stone. Since serpentine and dolomite make up much of its mineral structure, the color and pattern shift noticeably from one slab to the next, so every installation ends up genuinely one-of-a-kind. Designers reach for it on statement features like bookmatched accent walls, fireplace surrounds, and table tops, where the movement in the stone can take center stage.
